On February 14, 1912, Arizona officially became the 48th state in the Union. The economy initially flourished from the likes of cotton farming and copper mining, but in the wake of the Great Depression, much industry suffered like in so many other parts of the country. It was in the late 1920â??s to 1930â??s when the tourism industry began to gain steam and fueled much of the stateâ??s growth. It wasnâ??t long after that the state became widely known for some of the best spa resorts in the entire country.

A large majority of the stateâ??s residents find themselves taking residence in Phoenix. The city boasts a thriving metropolitan area with a growing and flourishing economy. From the Luke Air Force Base to nationally renowned golf destinations, Phoenix brings a wide variety of visitors and residents for different reasons. Many flock to the southwest for the dry climate and warm weather while others simply try to capture the mystique of the old west. Many outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy eye-catching landscapes at the surrounding state parks including Camelback Mountain and Papago Park. Phoenix is also the home to many professional sports clubs as well including the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals.
