Q&A: Can I connect my drip irrigation to my in-ground sprinkler system?

Question by NJB: Can I connect my drip irrigation to my in-ground sprinkler system?
I have a lake pump driven in-ground sprinkler system and a very long drip irrigation set up that connects to my home’s spigots.
They are problematic and I would like to connect the drip system to one of the regular sprinkler zones.
Can I do this? If so, how? I’d like to find specific details on what parts would be needed to connect it and if there could be any problems.
I’ve found some vague references to this through my google searches but nothing clear and documented enough that I could figure it out.

Home Depot sells a conversion kit that turns any regular sprinkler head into a connection for 4 drip lines. It’s not much, I think under .

Doing so should’nt be to difficult all you need to do is get a separate valve for the drip irrigation part if you want to run it separate from the normal irrigation zones. Make sure your controller can handle one more if not you might need to upgrade the controller. You will need:
1 valve
pvc pipe to hook the line to the valve (its easier to just place the new valve near the others)
irrigation wire to run from the new valve to the controller.
Thats basically it just hook everything up and since the main part of the system is already hooked up for you, you should be good to go once its connect to the controller.
Brent is wrong completely
you do not hook drip up on the same zone as mister heads or rotary heads.
Devin has it all right except for the pressure reducer that comes after the new valve for the drip zone.
you will need one of those becuase if you hook up drip to your irrigation system right now with full pressure it will blow out all of the drip lines!
you must use a very low flow valve or a regular solenoid valve with a pressure reducer plumbed in right after it.
and like devin said you will need wire. one for a common and one for a lead.
