Organic Weed Removal Part 3
In this, our third post on organic weed removal, we will discuss the steps necessary to complete after you have laid your landscape fabric. Now, previously we considered utilizing the process of soil solarization for bare lawns, but what if you have a lawn and small garden? Well, if your lawn is already established, you can obviously skip the soil solarization and move on to step two, laying landscape fabric, if your lawn is free of weeds.
To give a brief overview, you should first weed the area and remove all debris before you can lay down the landscape fabric. When laying the fabric over plants and flowers you’ll need to cut holes in the fabric for the plants to come through and be sure that the plastic sheet lays flat.
For both soil solarization and a simple weeding of the area, after fabric has been laid, laying mulch over the fabric is the next step. There are stone mulches and organic mulches each with their benefits. However, we are discussing organic weeding; therefore, organic mulches will be the best option.
As a general rule of thumb, feeding organic food to your lawn will help it perform its best without the harsh and adverse side effects of chemicals.
Stay tuned as there is more to come on the subject!
