Question by Niner099: I live in Indiana. It is around 65-70 degrees. can I transplant ornamental grass now without it dieing?
I will be transplanting ornamental grass. Will the roots have time “to take” in the 65-70 degree weather we are having?

Answer by Sandy F
Yes this is a good time to plant them.. they will survie good ..put some mulch over the top in case of a early freeze.. but they should do very well.. make sure that you water them good.. they need water even through the winter.. if you don’t get enough snow to keep them going.. new roots take a lot of water to take hold.
good luck

What Do Sheep Eat – Diet for Raising Healthy Sheep

Sheep are largely grazing herbivores, unlike browsing animals such as goats and deer that favor taller plants. With a much narrower features, sheep crop plants very close to the ground and can overgraze a grazing land much quicker than cattle. For this purpose, many shepherds make use of managed intensive rotational grazing, where a herd is rotated through multiple pastures, giving plants instance to recover. Paradoxically, sheep can both cause and solve the increase of enveloping plant species. By troubling the natural state of meadow, sheep and other livestock can pave the way intended for all-encompassing plants. However, sheep as well favor to munch invasives such as cheatgrass, grassy spurge, kudzu and blemished knapweed more than native species such as sagebrush, making grazing sheep efficient in support of conservation grazing. Research conducted in Imperial County, California compared lamb grazing with herbicides for weed control in sprout alfalfa fields. Three trials demonstrated that grazing lambs were solely as helpful as herbicides in controlling winter weeds. Entomologists furthermore compared grazing lambs to insecticides on behalf of insect control in winter alfalfa. In this trial, lambs provided insect control as effectively as insecticides.
Other than forage, the other essential feed in support of sheep is hay, often for the period of the winter months. The capability to flourish solely on meadow (even with no hay) varies with breed, but all sheep can endure on this diet. Also incorporated in certain sheep’s diets are minerals, either in a trace mix or in licks.
Naturally, a constant source of potable water is furthermore a fundamental requirement on behalf of sheep. The amount of water desired by sheep fluctuates with the season and the type and quality of the food they consume. When sheep feed on generous amounts of fresh growth and present is precipitation (including dew, as sheep are dawn feeders), sheep need a reduced amount of water. When sheep are confined or are eating sizable amounts of cured hay, more water is typically desired. Sheep furthermore require clean water, and could decline to drink water that is covered in scum or algae.

Making a Hydroponic System

The following is a set of instructions for constructing a hand watered bucket hydroponic system. There are of course no guarantees and results will vary but your single most important task in constructing this apparatus are following instructions as closely as possible. Among the most simple and inexpensive of the hydroponic grow systems you can create are the hand-watered bucket. This is a very basic way to utilize the power of hydroponics without breaking the bank. This is a great system for large plants such as tomato plants, lettuce or herbs.
The materials required for this project are a 5 gallon bucket, a fiberglass window screen, hydroponic fertilizer and a pH test kit. ALL of these items are extremely important to the construction of your system and need to be present and used.
First, drill a series of holes in a clean and sterile plastic bucket about an inch and a half above the bottom of the bucket. The number of holes does not necessarily matter, anywhere between 6 and 12 is good. However the larger the hole the faster the grow medium will dry out necessitating more watering.
Second, add your growing medium to the bucket and make sure to wash or pre-soak it prior to placing it into the bucket.
Third, add your seedling to the medium carefully making sure that the roots are entirely submerged within the medium.
Fourth, Mix your nutrient solution with the instructions provided with whatever fertilizer you are using. Make sure to check pH levels on a regular basis and your needs in this area will of course depend on what you are growing and what your growth goals are for that plant.
A great way to mix nutrients is in a one gallon jug in order to mix one gallon at a time. You can of course mix more than one bucket at a time in a larger container depending on your needs.
Fifth, add your freshly mixed nutrients into the bucket until you see some come out of the holes at the bottom of the bucket. Make sure that the pH level of the nutrients being introduced is suitable to your goals before introducing it to your plants. Repeat this process at regular intervals depending on your needs both in regard of growing and local weather conditions.
For the automated version fill the reservoir with water before mixing in your nutrient solution, instructions for this procedure can be found on the fertilizer package. Make sure to check pH levels and adjust mixing accordingly.
After this attach a drip line to the submersible pump and pump this water into the reservoir, make sure to attach your pump to a timer so that these tasks can be completed regularly throughout the day.
While this is a great starter hydroponic systems it will not fit all needs out there, you should definitely consider your own goals and needs before selecting any growing system. Always make sure to check your pH levels, too much acid in a plant’s nutrient supply can kill a plant very quickly.

Hypothosis:
Organic fertilizers seem to have higher NPK Ratings or Nitrogen: phosphorus: potassium ratings than that of Organic fertilizers. The average NPK rating for ‘Man Made’ Fertilizers is 16.26:10.30:13.50 whereas Organic fertilizers have an average NPK rating of 1.99:4.36:0.36, But does a higher NPK rating affect the growth rate of plants?
Thanks Everyone:))

Best methods for lawn problems? weeds mostly.?
December 31, 2010
Question by Sam: Best methods for lawn problems? weeds mostly.?
We pretty much have a problem with our lawn that is pretty much weeds. Thing is, it’s not just those normal pull out weeds. It’s more like long rope type, another type that just doesn’t look like grass and that’s it, but it composes almost 70-80 percent of our lawn. Spraying herbacide over THAT whole thing would just kill everything, but I was wondering if there was a way to make GRASS grow WHILE killing weeds. That way we don’t have to have a month of a brown patch on our lawn. Is there anything like that? Something that kills weeds while promoting grass to grow?

go to home depot and get weed and feed , its like a granual or spray, spray or spread 2 or 3 times before it gets hot and a little bit of mowing or hand weeding , they will not go away without some energy from you. have fun

What is the best fertilizer ever?
December 31, 2010
Question by Bliss: What is the best fertilizer ever?
I’m not really sure how to phrase this question right but I’ll just try. In your opinion what would be the best fertilizer ever? What would it contain and not contain? What would it do for your plants? Just basically your dream fertilizer.. =)
and another question is what are the most important tools when gardening?
How can gardening be made better?
Thanks!

Answer by Stephen
The fertilizer questions is impossible to answer because it all depends on the nutrients needed to be replaced into the soil. In my case, I will take good ol compost from my heap and that does the trick for my vegetable garden. However, cow manure has been used commercially for many years. I think it all depends on your needs and desires. For instance, now you can buy organic or non organic fertilizer, you can buy liquid fertilizers, pellet fertilizers, dirt fertilizers, etc. It all depends. As for the important tools. I really love my 4 prong pitchfork and my pointed hoe.
