I would start buy going to the library and researching – that’s free. You can use many different kinds of trees or plants for this and you do not have to buy special seeds. What you need is a plant that will have a woody type stem and will take a lot of trimming. You also will be cutting back the roots so it should be a hardy plant. Most books will recommend good starting plants. I have 2 growing now but killed many over the last couple of years.

Core Aeration – Why Aeration Is So Beneficial To Lawns

March 31, 2011

www.spring-green.com Harold Enger talks about the benefits of core aeration for your home lawn. Core aeration is probably the most beneficial thing you can do for your lawn other than fertilization. A core aerator will pull up plugs of soil and place them back on the grass. It helps compacted soil and to reduce thatch. The aeration process opens up the soil to allow more air, water and nutrients to reach the root level of the grass plants. After an aeration, it’s a great time to overseed your lawn if necessary. The aeration holes allow the seed to fall into the holes and germinate.

Do you think a environmentally friendly lawn care business would work?

lawn business
by Max Nathan

Question by Kyle L: Do you think a environmentally friendly lawn care business would work?
I was thinking that an all electric lawn service would be cool. do you think it would sell or do people really care about stuff like that.

Best answer:

Answer by greengardengirl
Of course they care! this is the focus of many lives right now.Electric mower really isn’t a viable solution for people who take care of many lawns. It is more directed to Joe-homeowner who makes up I think I heard 60% of the mowing population. If you want to make a change, encourage people to purchase indigenous plants, eliminate area of grass, and stay away from chemicals and encourage them to start a rain barrel.Just a few ideas, but electric mowers is just not practical for a mowing service.if you are truly going to have a successful business, you need blowers and trimmers too.

What is a very low evergreen shade groundcover instead of grass?

shade grass
by mnsc

Question by Stacy: What is a very low evergreen shade groundcover instead of grass?
I live in the pacific northwest. It would be instead of grass because I am totally allergic to grass. I would like something 3 inches max that doesn’t need to be mowed. I would prefer something I could buy seeds for because I have about a 4000 sq ft area to cover.

Of course I want it to be comfortable enough to roll around on with the kids

Junipers, but BE WARNED if you EVER want to remove them, they are a pain!..
kinnikinick, or cotoneaster, but there is a lot of weeding involved until it covers the entire area. and it can be a bit of work to keep weeded as the weeds will grow through the woody growth and be difficult to remove until they are choked out.
