Is the old fashioned way of farming better for organic produce?
November 19, 2010
Question by Isle of view: Is the old fashioned way of farming better for organic produce?
Where I live they still plough the fields using oxen and other animals are used in the harvesting. It is just like a step back in time. These days organic food is grown using machinery, combine harvesters and tractors. Can it be truly called organic when we use fuel driven machinery.
Cyrus: this type of farming has nothing to do with Amish, it is just a way of life for certain farmers. There are no Amish in Andalucia.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Keep yourself Healthy With Chemically Untouched, Natural Organic Fruits
It is quite easy to find fruits in open market. We know the fruits come chemical treated at various stages. Most fruits we consume are grown and preserved with chemical aid.
Think how a fruit is grown in a farmer’s orchard. The plant is supported by chemical fertilizers. These fertilizers help the plants grow fast and yield more fruits. Abundance of pesticides and insecticides are applied at the orchards to prevent pests and insects. In many cases of mechanized harvesting, chemicals are also applied for quick falling of unripe fruits.
It goes without saying these chemicals ultimately accumulate in human bodies, causing several health problems at a later period.
Naturally occurring fruits are hard to come across and usually involves efforts from your own part to take a trekking to the wilderness. If you are at the local markets near hill stations of Kerala, your luck rate is higher to find naturally bred fruits grown in thick dense forests. Not only Kerala South India, but tropical countries of Africa are also rich source of natural fruits that are not contaminated by chemicals.
Wild plants generally produce lesser number of fruits and the size will also be smaller. Such fruits however have the advantages that they are never fumigated or otherwise chemically treated for bigger size, better taste or large quantity produce.
The grapes you buy from general market have pesticides on its skin. This pesticide is not quickly rinsed away. The result will be more chemicals in your body.
There are also scalable differences in the performance of naturally grown fruits and chemically treated artificial fruits.
While natural fruits stay fresh for a few days after falling down or harvesting, chemically treated fruits rot in a day or two. This is the same for all kinds of fruits.
Natural fruits tend to bear highly functional seeds. Most artificially cultivated fruits have seedless varieties or varieties with poorly developed seeds. The artificial fruits generally are in the ‘sterile’ zone. I.e. they are not capable of reproduction. All of the examples suggest that cultivated and chemical treated fruits are inferior to naturally occurring fruits.
It is not practicable for everyone to find naturally occurring fruits from the forests. The closest healthy alternative to going to forests is growing organic crop. Though the plants doesn’t get a wild environment where there is the right supply of temperature, water, bio-nutrients etc; chemical treating is absent.
No GM crops apply here. Organic food is fresh and doesn’t inject harmful chemicals to your body.
Vegans claiming to eat only healthy food do have a challenge before them to ensure if they are eating healthy fruits.

Natural Remedies For Fibroids – Shrink Fibroids Naturally
Natural remedies for fibroids really are an excellent option for women suffering from often unbearable symptoms. All too often, women are disappointed and disillusioned with the treatment options offered to them by doctors. Veg growing all by you is not only money saving option, but there are many health benefits related to it. In case there is ample space in your house, you can Grow Your Own Veg as well as sell some of the produce in the market.
The vegetables grown in the garden will be fresh, free of preservatives and additives. Thus, you can be assured that the food you are eating is not causing health problems to you or your family members.
In case you have decided to grow Vegetable Plants, the very first thing to consider is the soil or the land for plantation. Most of the residential areas don’t have good quality soil because it contains cement and stones. Make sure that there is 10-20 cm top soil on the land for growing vegetables. You can use tools for separating stones from the area. Using a container with proper drainage will be another good idea.
If you are planning the Veg Growing on ground, make adequate measures for irrigation. Raise the level of soil by about 15-20cm, which is called a “bed”. Then, add fertilizer to further improve the quality of the soil. In case you want to grow organic vegetables, add organic fertilizer.
Next step is to plant seeds into the bed and water them atleast twice a day, especially in hot weather. In order to avoid excessive dryness, you can cover the bed with dried leaves or gardening plastic cover.
You should also look out for bugs and pets. Snails can eat the shoot or kill the plant. Therefore, you should use biological control or insecticides to keep them away.
Having a garden where you can grow lots of fruits and vegetables will make you feel good. It will not only save money but give you a healthy lifestyle also. Therefore, utilize the space in backyard of your house to enjoy eating fresh vegetables all season all.

The tree survey is the most important part when one considers developing the land he owns and wants to surface the lands for plantation. Tree survey gives the user a complete idea about the trees on the land their type and growth culture that suits the environment in the long run. If the survey is done in systematic manner than the exact condition of the trees on the land can be known, which would be beneficial in gathering information about the trees and their growth pattern.

Q&A: Whats the difference between natural and organic?
November 19, 2010
Question by Erica: Whats the difference between natural and organic?
I have always wondered this??? I know organic means no chemicals were used to grow or sprayed on products. But what is the difference between an apple right from the tree and an organic apple?
Best answer:
Answer by Amanda
Hi Erica (Beautiful name btw) -
In most cases it means they weren’t treated with any chemicals or growth hormones. This goes for meats, too.
Also, a lot of our food products are bio-engineered strains that originate in a laboratory. So what we’re eating is not the same strains that humans were eating 20, 40, 60 years ago and so on. There’s a lot of controversy on this subject.
But in general it means that whatever you’re eating doesn’t contain, or hasn’t been treated with anything external.
Hope this helps!

Mental Home Organization Tools

About the Author
Anyone who tells you that organization for the home is an effortless course is lying to you. It necessitates exertion, discipline and tenaciousness to get your home organised and to continue it organized. But you possess aid on the path at http://www.YourHomeIsOrganized.com
(ArticlesBase SC #911625)
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Mental Home Organization Tools
The mental piece of house organisation is frequently more of a challenge than any other area of growing organised. For several individuals there is some kind of disaster place that is what truly eventually causes them to desire to become coordinated. A disaster point might be anything. Possibly a friend gives a remark about your home, possibly you wind up getting phoned by your creditor because of your continuing late payments, possibly you are late for your daughter’s performance because you cannot find your keys once more. It may be anything but the essential thing is that it happens.
Why is that significant? Because a breakdown must come about if you expect a breakthrough to occur in organization for the home. You must realize the catastrophe in your life before you may do anything about it. You have to acknowledge that there is a issue in order for you to be effective to puzzle out it. I am not lecturing about you simply desiring to get organised. It has to go beyond that. There must be a point of true desire included. If there is not desire, you are going to be pressing an upward house organization fight.
So now that you understand that you need to really need to become organised, what is the way you do it? There are several resources out there with much of sound home organization tools in them. But that will only be effective if you initially have your mental game adequate. So how do you get your mental game right? You must be willing to shift the way you live your life. Why? Because how you are currently living it is not helpful for you. How do I know that? Because otherwise you would not be searching for house organization assistance. You have to be ready to do things opposite of what you have been and to do things that initially are uncomfortable and forced to you. Produce fresh organization for the home habits.
The other thing that you are going to need to do is to go forward reinforcing those habits. One of the soundest psychological home organization tools that you might have in this battle is persistence. It is going to involve time and exertion to make your home organised. And it will be even tougher to give up those lifelong wrong organizing habits. But if you really desire to grow organized, you have to do it. You have to commit and then stay with your path.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Organic Baby Clothes
As our world becomes more and more industrialized, people are looking for ways to gain better health free of chemicals and preservatives while helping our world to be a cleaner place to live. One way to do this is by eating organic foods. These foods are grown naturally and free of unhealthy food additives which are not good for you. Following the same way of thinking, wearing organic clothing is also good for the environment. The most popular organic clothing is organic baby clothes.
Farmers who grow organic produce are committed to not using chemicals of any kind. The same is true for organic cotton farmers as they have just as much respect for the environment. Traditional cotton farming is said to use almost a fourth of the entire worlds insecticides and ten percent of its pesticides. These are chemicals that pollute, not only the air we breathe, but also the ground where our food grows and the water we drink and which is home to the many different fish that are eaten every day.
Though it may be unrealized by the parent, they are exposing their baby to chemicals and irritants when putting them in clothing made with ordinary cotton.
Parents can reduce the amount of chemicals their babies are exposed to by using organic baby clothes. Organic fabric will be a great relief to an infants sensitive skin. Organic baby clothes can be found online as well as smaller specialty boutiques. They will keep your baby comfortable and help keep allergen and irritant exposure to a minimum.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Why You Should Grow Your Own Vegetables
<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>
With every passing day, an increasing number of people are starting their own vegetable gardens. Today about 38% of Americans already have their own vegetable gardens and this number will further grow since people are so health conscious. So if you are thinking about growing a vegetable garden, think no further because growing a vegetable garden has so many benefits. Below mentioned are some good reasons for growing a vegetable garden of your own.
Vegetable gardening can be a really profitable business. If you have a word with some of the people living in your locality you will know how much they hate paying for vegetables that are produced synthetically. You on the other hand can take this as a great opportunity to make money! All you have to do is start growing organic vegetables in your garden or backyard and sell them at a price that’s lower than market price. On the surface this might not seem like a big amount of money, but when you know what vegetable to grow and consistently grow it for the next 30 days, you should generate a good amount of extra income. You might want to have a look at cash crop!
If you aren’t interested in selling the vegetables in your local market, you can always have them for you and your family. This way you can save a good amount of money that you would spend on groceries. Vegetables that are grown in your garden will also be tastier and healthier in comparison to the vegetables available in the market.
Most times farmers overuse fertilizers and pesticides which deteriorates the quality of the vegetables. This not only takes away the nutritional values of the vegetable, it also takes away the taste, which is why people hate eating vegetables. So if you are thinking of preparing a really tasty dish for your family, give vegetable gardening a shot and you family will love you even more!
Many people take up vegetable gardening just for the fact that it reduces stress. When you will breathe all the oxygen produced by your vegetable garden, you will find yourself a lot more relaxed than you usually are. You can also start growing a vegetable garden if you are amongst those people who would like to lose weight.
Planting vegetables can actually be a great hobby. You will have a lot of fun growing a vegetable garden, especially when you want to keep busy and do something constructive with your time. Believe it or not, people actually become happy by seeing their plants grow. So are you ready to start a vegetable garden?

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – What Are Organic Foods?
Organic foods are in reality food that have been grown naturally just as how foods had been grown for centuries gone by.
In the fields the farmers are nor allowed to use any of the insecticides, pesticides, fungicides or for that matter any modern day chemical on their plants. No use of human waste or sewage is allowed.
In the animal kingdom that we derive our foods from, animals are suppose to be reared on pastures free from the above chemicals, antibiotics and any other modern day drugs. The animals have to be reared without the use of growth hormones.
Today the term genetically modified applies to farms that tend to use seeds that have been scientifically tampered with in order that the farmer may yield a higher crop on harvesting.
How are organic foods produced?
The farms have to be free of any chemicals for a a specified number of years. Once the land has been certified clean then the farmer can operate as an organic farm.
The organic crops cannot be treated as modern day farms operate. Rather they have to follow more stringent methods to prevent infestation of rodents, insect, etc. from contaminating their crops or live stock.
How to grow organic foods?
Extreme care has to be taken to prepare the soil and keep it free from air borne insects as well as rats and mice. There are a number of plants that can be grown that will help to keep the insect population down.
The farmer must also spend a fair amount of time actually looking at each plant to see that its free from insect attacks. By rotating the crops around the farmer is able to put nitrogen back into the soil along with other nutrients.
As this is a time consuming job, organic farms are never very large. They normally are just big enough for the farming family to manage. Another disadvantage of organic farming is that as the fruit are normally plucked sun ripened they have to be taken straight to market.
So the farms cannot be too far away from the shops. Organic produce is supposed to be fresh and sold daily.
You will generally find organic foods small in size and brighter in color. The taste will be sharper and much more flavorful. The added benefit is the extra nutrient value you get in your food.
Unfortunately the price does seem to be higher as the farmers have to spend more time cultivating a smaller crop. Hopefully this may change as organic foods get more and more popular.
Organic farmers have to obtain certification from the local government in their areas that their land as well as their methods of farming abide by the rules of the organic association.
In the old days the farms were small and the produce was sold in the local markets. At one time organically grown produce was dominated by genetically modified foods.
In the last 10 years that has changed significantly with organic foods growing in acceptance world wide

How do you make REAL organic chicken feed with crops anyone can grow?
November 19, 2010
Question by TheDefender: How do you make REAL organic chicken feed with crops anyone can grow?
I have heard of alot of so called organic feeds and those that have arsenic and all that bad stuff in it. I have about 10 Muscovy ducks and 24 Chickens. We have a 25acre hobby farm and they roam around as much as they want and are always walking in lines like Raptors you see in Jurassic park movies, its really funny to see. But at times like now and sometimes when the weather is bad in Minnesota i give them some Chicken feed that looks like crumb/pellets (probably contains arsenic) and also what they really like is corn that also comes in a 50lb bag. Im sure both have additives and such that are a minimal harm to them but still a harm. And because we eat the eggs its probably takes away from the nutritional value. I looked around for stuff i could grow on our land to feed them so they dont have to eat that bag stuff or at least very very very minimal amount of it. I plan to grow corn for them & some other sutff but i dont know what else to grow? After all this is minnesota. Any ideas?
Another that need be mentioned is that, we do not spray or add any toxins to our ground. We have rows and rows of wild raspberries that are all natural. Because we have dogs around we dont have any issues with crows or other creatures. Also we did a search of the internet looking for ways we could do it ourselves and it seems that no one can do this with out alot of machinery and other strange ingredients that cant be grown or fished. Its kind of strange since there have been Amish getting food for their chickens for ALONG time but it is not widely known how to do what they do, to bad many of them cant use computers and let us know right? Anyway, any help would be appreciated for real crops we could grow and then what would be a good way to mix the plants you know together to make feed?
Best answer:
Answer by ohiorganic
I use organic chicken feed I get from a local organic grower that is ground corn, roasted soy and wheat. i do not know the ratios.
But if you have an extra 3 acres that should be enough room to grow the grains you need.
I agree that the crumbles you get from the feed store are likely full of things you don’t want in your feed such as antibiotics and vitamin supplement (where I believe the arsenic resides) I know they are NOT organic and that means they have GMO grains along with other things you do not want.
I have often though about growing sunflowers for my chickens as sunflower seed is full of fat and protein and the birds love them.
I have also been told hens do better with whole uncracked or barely cracked grains than ground or extruded (what crumbles are) grain. They are built to grind their own due to having a crop.
Check out http://www.attra.org they have a boatload of information on that site for the smaller sustainable/organic grower and there probably are chicken feed recipes
Also try http://www.plamadon.com this guy has been raising chicken naturally for a long time and knows his stuff
Yes they are mini dinosaurs for certain.

When Growing Organic Cucumbers, You Better Watch the Weather
Cucumbers have many uses. You can use it for making pickles, salad, or just eaten raw as an appetizer. You can also use it as beauty agent to relax your eyes and minimize wrinkles. This versatile vine also possesses many medicinal properties. Growing organic cucumbers on your garden therefore should always be on top of your gardening list.
The first thing to consider when you plant cucumber is the weather. Cucumbers are tropical plant so naturally they need lots of sunlight and space. It would be best to plant cucumbers in early summer. It would not survive even in the mildest frost so you better keep track of the weather when planting cucumbers.
Second, cucumbers thrive in open spaces. The plant could wilt if it has little room for growth. If you do not have enough space in your garden, you can construct vertical trellises where it can climb and proliferate.
Before actual planting of cucumber, you must prepare the soil by incorporating compost and cultivating it thoroughly. Make sure that the soil is loose and have enough drains to avoid water logging. You can also start conditioning your garden soil by introducing organic fertilizer. This will allow the build-up of nutrients on the soil which is very good for cucumber.
To retain moisture and keep grasses and weeds from growing, you can add mulch to the soil. Tree bark or wood chips and saw dust could be ideal materials for mulching.
There are two ways to start planting cucumbers after the soil has been conditioned. First, you could wait for another 2 -3 weeks to allow growth of starter plants. This is a good option if you are planting in late spring. The risk of frost still remains around these times. It would be safer to let cucumber seeds to germinate to make it stronger against the element.
However, if you are sure about the weather, you can directly plant cucumber seeds in your garden plot. Seeds should be spaced at 3 feet intervals in a single row. This would give the plant enough growing space as well as maximize the nutrients of the soil.
