A ROSE GROWING GUIDE that will help you grow the most beautiful roses you could find.
Successful rose growing does take a little bit more time than most other gardening but the results will give you the most gorgeous roses you have ever had. The selection of roses available is huge but not only that, some are much easier to grow than others. The benefit of this is that depending on your available time you can choose those that are easy to grow, but just as stunning, or you can take ‘growing roses’ up as a true hobby and specialize in some of the more difficult species to maintain. We can help you choose the right ones for your location.
Planting roses can be a little difficult in itself but with the right advice and expert tips this can be made much simpler and much more enjoyable.
For example when choosing the particular plants to grow there are many issues you will have to consider. Most people start with color, either because it suits their decor or garden design, or purely and simply because it is their favourite rose. Then very importantly climate has to be considered, then height of the plant. Setting out your garden is very important and this is not necessarily just the rose garden, consideration has to be made of other plants to be planted alongside the roses.
Two other factors are the fragrance of the rose and/or if it is of value to you and also the purpose to which you are going to put the rose blooms; whether it be a bowl of flowers, a bridal boquet of whatever.
There are many factors to consider when you look at how to grow roses and once these are understood then you have a greater chance of more blooms than you ever imagined. Factors to consider are: sunlight, water, soil, fertilizers, bacteria, diseases and lots more that are covered in our ebook 101 TIPS FOR GORGEOUS ROSES.
We have compiled expert advice to help you start growing your own gorgeous roses.

February marks what gardeners call the middle of the winter, and this is a time when a lot of things need to be done to prepare the garden for the summer months. If the sky is clear during this time it is believed to be a sign that the cold weather will remain for a few more weeks, while if the weather iscloudy at the start of the month it is thought that it will start to get warmer and spring is on its way.

Question for gardeners? Or just for people who know about roses?
February 23, 2011
Question by Jay: Question for gardeners? Or just for people who know about roses?
My mom has a few roses in our backyard. She really loves them, but she doesn’t know how to care for them..
We have a few red, white, whiteish/yellowish roses that have just bloomed and for Mothers day i want to give her some things to care for them..
Can you help me put together a little gardening kit for her? What am I supposed to buy? I know roses need fertilizer (not exactly sure what that is?) and they sell plant food? Im not sure.. what exactly do i need?
Best answer:
Answer by Sandra H
She should fertilize it with pink fertilizer for roses here it comes in a pink pail….I have 61 roses in my yard. Does she have something to cut the dead flowers off with, those should be removed after they are done flowering…..So pruners to take any dead branches off when the rose bush comes back to life and the fertilizer….I would buy her something neat to put outside on her table for fresh cut roses depending on what kind she has….Gloves so she doesn’t poke her self when deadheading the flowers….Things like that is a nice little basket starter…Good luck hope she likes what ever you do for her….

Answer by Zane A
all in all i’d say this is a good casual deck that you’ve built. if you want to make it more competative then put in 1 more solemn. take out one wall of thorns. put in 1 more twilight rose knight and add in cyber dragon. i know he doesnt really fit into a ‘plant’ deck but he’s just like gorz; a free beatstick. and take out 1 mark of the rose. its good but only run 1. 2 is too many in my opinion. with those changes this deck will rise from a 5/10 to a 7/10. if you would like a better decklist or some more input from me just hit me up.

Rose Gardening – 7 Amazing Tips Towards Magnificence!

When you have just started to take to gardening, you often need all the assistance that you can possibly obtain. Any kind of useful gardening information, particularly concerning roses, is indispensable to an amateur gardener. Some valuable inputs acquired from gardening are summarized below. There are rose tips for every day of the week and you can use them effectively to grow the prettiest roses.
1. Ensure that your rose plants are grown in fertile soil. Put ample amounts of peat moss and compost for proper drainage. Moreover, make certain that the soil is to some extent acidic.
2. The rose plants have to be given vital nutrients at recurring intervals. If you wish to see your garden brimming with lovely roses, then provide your roses with plenty of nourishment on a frequent basis during the budding season. Every time you purchase rose plants, the feeding instructions are mentioned on the packet. You will discover that the initial feeding of the developing season is very crucial, since it gives your roses the required boost to flourish well.
However, you will be required to supply nourishment to the roses continuously during the season if you wish the roses to reappear ever so often.
3. Search for rose food enriched with liberal doses of phosphorous. Substantial doses of phosphorous in the rose food will make certain that your rose plants bear profuse blooms.
4. Always, remember to spread out the roots. When a rose bush is planted, carefully separate and straighten out its roots. Take out the roots that are disfigured. Spread the roots out in the hollow as you plant them. This will enable your rose plants to grow an excellent root structure.
5. Maintain the plants in neat and orderly rows and keep them properly trimmed. Roses require to be pruned annually in the initial days of the spring season. Moreover, you should pay attention to remove faded blooms on a regular basis and take out diseased and decayed leaves.
6. Study and understand roses before purchasing them. If you are unable to invest adequate time and effort in your rose garden, then pick those varieties of roses that are strong and sturdy and can resist diseases. In this case, you do not need to spend much time in your rose garden but will still be able to grow glorious, healthy plants.
7. Take into consideration the area where the roses are to be planted before you select roses. The roses can be made use of effectively to disguise or conceal landscaping imperfections. Climbing roses can be beautifully employed to keep out of sight an unattractive fence. Ground cover rose plants can be availed of to fill a spot where you find it hard to grow grass.
The growing of roses is not as difficult as it appears, although quite a few people are wary of taking to rose gardening. It just calls for a little bit of time, exertion, and care to grow magnificent roses in a pretty short time span.

In my opinion, Plant Control is better than Plant Synchro. Try this:
Monsters (20)
3x Tytannial, Princess of Cammellias
3x Gigaplant
3x Lonefire Blossom
3x Lord Poison
3x Botanical Lion
3x Blazewing Butterfly
1x Sangan
1x Morphing Jar
Spells (14)
3x Mark of the Rose
3x Swing of Memories
3x Miracle Fertilizer
1x Card Destruction
1x Monster Reborn
1x Heavy Storm
1x Lightning Vortex
1x Card of Safe Return
Traps (6)
3x Pollinosis
2x Ultimate Offering
1x Torrential Tribute
Side Deck (15)
3x Reckless Greed
3x Symbol of Heritage
2x Dragon’s Mirror
2x Nettles
1x Future Fusion
1x Mirror Force
1x Brain Control
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Giant Trunade
Extra Deck (15)
3x Stardust Dragon
3x Thought Ruler Archfiend
3x Queen of Thorns
3x Black Rose Dragon
2x Superalloy Beast Raptinus
1x Goyo Guardian
Plant decks should be able to control the field with “Tytannial, Princess of Camellias” and Special Summon a lot with “Gigaplant” while drawing a lot of cards with “Card of Safe Return”. Hope this helps!

looks pretty good…i think it needs a little better monsters you could try putting in some monsters like botanical lion or cactus fighter. Also, if you’re running with plant types you ABSOLUTELY need to run The world tree, it is such an awesome card. You need to run at least 2.
my bad i hadn’t noticed that you already had Botanical Lions in there already. lol

The Basics of Care for Miniature Roses

Basics of mini roses
One of the first questions I get is “Are Miniature Rose Bushes delicate and Fragile?” The Surprising answer is miniature rose bushes and the care of miniature roses bushes, are very similar to that of the regular-sized rose bushes. They are actually pretty hardy.
Sunlight
Miniature Roses require a full 6-8 hours of good sunshine per day. They can survive with a bit less sun, but this will affect the way and how much they bloom. Like the larger rose plants, the less sunlight they have, the less they will bloom, in an aspect type ratio.
An example is if they need 8 hours of sunshine to produce 8 blooms, and they only get 6 hours of sunshine, then they will only bloom 6 times, instead of 8. This can have a huge effect on commercial rose crops as a reduction in light can mean a large flower production drop.
Feeding
For feeding I generally do a spring feeding with a good compost to give the soil a good boost of nutrients. When the first flower buds start to show I will then use a good organic food such as fish emulsion. I do this to provide them with an “extra” push to help flower production. I don’t use chemical fertilizers because these tend to strip away the beneficial flora in the soil and kill the microorganisms that help the plants.
Watering
I like to recommend watering of roses in inches, so a good 1 to 1.5 inches of water every week is good and what I give. The way I measure in inches is with a very inexpensive rain gauge that is found at the garden shop. I put it next to one of my rose bushes and then water it. When the water hits 1-1.5 inches I am done.
Once I get a good feel for this I can then generally eyeball the amount of water I give them each time. I don’t over water either, roses hate being saturated and standing in puddles of water.
Another way I figure out watering is to have the base of the rose in a circular valley or dirt moat. I fill the valley up with water once if it is 2 inches deep and let it drain. I do this one more time and then I am done watering for the next couple of days. That is how I water.
Soil
Roses, especially in pots, need to be put in good soil. Clay based soil is ok for roses, so is your average garden potting soil. Sandy soils are generally not good unless you are really vigilant and keep an eye on watering and maintaining good water levels. Letting a rose dry out will halt flower production and growth screeches to a halt.
Even if you decide to use sandy soils and use a lot of water it, a rose will not tolerate standing water for any length of time, and as an aside, this is not a good pond-side plant.
Pruning
So you just bought a new miniature rose plant and it’s covered with flowers, the first thing you want to do is prune it. First seek out and carefully prune back the old wilting or just fading roses. This should leave you with a small round bush or mound of canes.
Canes are what the branches of the rose bush are called. So try to manicure this to a well rounded shape with the center of the bush being slightly taller than the outer areas. If you have a choice in your cuts, definitely cut or “prune” so that an outward facing bud is at the top of the cane. If you don’t see one, don’t worry, later you will have one but for now just prune and shape.
Overwintered Roses
The period of time a rose goes through winter is called “Overwintering”. If you’ve gone through an overwinter with your roses and not sure what to do next, take a pick of 5-8 of the best, healthiest and thickest canes and prune away the rest. We want to focus the rose’s energy on feeding the best of the bunch and not the smaller ones.
If you’ve rooted a new bush from a cutting, don’t prune except to remove flowers before they start bloom. We want the energy to be put into root and leaf production, instead of blooms, this insures the new cutting will survive the season and have a better chance of staying the long haul.
Once it’s in its second year, then we’ll pruning the miniature roses as stated in the previous paragraph. An aside is that it might not throw too many canes in the first year but each year it will get larger and larger.
Since miniature roses are not grafted as the large varieties are, and are grown on it’s own root stock, canes that come from below ground are not a problem and can be left to grow. These canes will flower normally but also insure the growth of the root system. If these new grown canes are part of the 5-8 strong canes described in the previous paragraph, it is ok to leave them.
With these basic tips on the miniature rose bush, almost anyone can maintain a beautiful and healthy miniature rose garden. Miniature roses are in a class all by themselves as they are small and tiny, and have definite following all their own amongst Rosarians.

Many Assume Growing Miniature Roses is Difficult
Growing miniature roses may seem daunting .
Though at first one might think that these are fragile plants, what with their being miniature and all, whereas it’s the other way around as they’re one of the hardier plants of the rose variety.
This makes growing miniature roses very popular with budding rose gardeners.

Roses are one of the most popular flower species in the world. Fossil evidence tells us that the rose is around 35 million years old. However the cultivation of roses in gardens is fairly recent. It began about 5,000 years ago in China. Roses are surrounded with mystery and romance connected to their lore. More than 150 species of roses have been found in nature and countless cultivars developed from them. Growing roses is easy with a little understanding of their life cycle.

Rose Gardening Secrets
Posted: Mar 29, 2010 |
]]>
For thousands of years people have been growing roses. Although roses have earned a reputation for being difficult to grow, plenty of rose growers disagree. Here we have compiled some rose gardening secrets that have made cultivating these beautiful blooms something anyone can do successfully.
Roses are actually quite basic in their needs: good soil, good sunlight, plenty of water and a bit of pruning. By following the basics and learning about some basic elements of soil pH, planting and location you will be surprised at how easy it actually is to grow most varieties of roses successfully.
Before you start any preparation, choose a location for your roses. Depending on where you live, climate and access to direct sunlight are critical in growing healthy roses. Find a location in your yard or garden that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight every day, a must for rose growers everywhere. If possible, morning sun is preferable to afternoon sun.
Make sure the soil you use is rose-worthy. The soil should not be sandy, nor should it have a high clay content. You want to use a firm soil that retains its shape in your hand, yet crumbles easily. Rose roots systems grow deep, and the soil that houses it must be fit to allow the rose plant to draw the nutrients and water it needs.
Roses do best with a soil pH ranging from 6.5 to 6.8. Additionally, roses grow best in soil with good drainage. You may need to improve the soil that will nourish your roses with compost and organic nutrients. Add peat moss to the soil to enhance drainage.
Water is essential to roses, as it is to all plants. But when you’re watering roses, make sure you make it count. Roses have deep root systems, so a rule of thumb is two deep waterings per week. Surface watering will not benefit your roses. Water your roses in daylight, preferably in the mornings. Watering in late evening can be problematic as it can promote powdery mildew, a common disease that targets roses.
When planting different varieties of rose bushes, follow guidelines for spacing to be sure that each plant will get adequate air circulation. Inadequate spacing of your roses can also foster the powdery mildew problem. When you purchase your rose bushes, instructions for spacing should be included with them. Don’t be afraid to ask your garden center expert for advice if you have any questions.
Pruning your roses is not too demanding, but it is necessary for producing healthy new blooms. With the exception of climbing roses, which fare best with almost no pruning, roses need fairly routine pruning. The best time to prune is in spring, after the last frost while the plants are still dormant from winter. Prepare the soil with a good mixture of organic fertilizer and nutrients to promote growth. This is also the best time to transplant roses, as their dormant state will prevent trauma that replanting them in full season can cause.
Make sure to choose the best type of roses for your garden; spend some time exploring your options and decide on what will work best in your lawn or garden.
Anyone can create the rose garden of their dreams by following the rose gardening secrets listed here, and adding your own TLC.

Caring For Roses In Winter
Posted: Apr 10, 2010 |Comments: 0

In spring most gardeners prune, water, spray, weed and fertilize properly therefore winter is a much easier time on roses. If you were growing roses for cuttings, growing miniature roses, transplanting roses or simply enjoying your first year of rose gardening there are a few things to remember in winter. Many gardeners will try to prolong the time that roses will grow by covering plants when frost is predicted. Roses are annuals, and they need specific work prior to the winter coming in order for them to live through winter.
To keep rose bush care going and hips to form, deadhead your roses. Once winter sets in, the seeds will insure the next year’s blossoms and the plant will concentrate on storing food to live through the winter. There is no date to stop cutting roses off, you should use your best judgment and stop cutting roses off about 6 weeks from the first frost and decrease the water as they go dormant.
Once dormant, break out your rose gardening gloves and clean up any debris from the base including leaves and mulch. Rose gardening and caring for roses in general calls for this to be done so that no insect or diseases make their way into the area. Also do not use the debris for any compost on your roses the following year. Rose gardening entails pruning, even in winter. If they are exposed to areas where wind is high and there is no protection you should prune the roses to keep the plant from being uprooted by winds.
Winter mulching in your rose gardening area is essential. It is not to warm the roses, but to keep the graft union protected and keeping the roses dormant. You should allow the ground to freeze before you mulch and it keeps moles and mice from tunneling into the mulch you lay.
Organic rose gardening or just growing roses for cuttings, you will need to decide how to protect your roses for winter. Dirt covered with straw is not exactly ideal but will work if you have no other options. Rose domes made out of pressed paper or Styrofoam can be found. Some gardeners take cuttings into a greenhouse in case their bushes do not survive. The Minnesota Tip is used by many. This entails make a trench around the rose plant and loosening half the roots, then laying the roses into the trench. Cover with straw and natural soil and then when frost is gone stand the plant back up. This will keep the plant in dormancy but will also ensure it does not die over the winter.
Growing miniature roses or caring for knock out roses, you will generally see most plants are hardy. Those roses that have their own root instead of grafted will be hardier, as well as any grown in Pennsylvania. Knowing the type of roses you have prior to planting will help you to care for them before winter hits.

There are a lot of things to consider when you plant anything. Keeping Miniature Roses Alive and Growing

Growing miniature roses can be rewarding as part of your rose gardening career, although caring for roses can take up much time. Rose planting, rose bush care and knowledge of roses are all part of the grand hobby of rose gardening. Growing miniature roses are commonly mistaken for small house plants that can be taken care of indoors. In caring for roses, a gardener finds that these growing miniature roses can grow to be as large as four feet tall. So if you decide to keep your miniatures inside, they need at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. If you are dealing with the micro miniature roses, these will only get about 6 inches tall and are considered to be easy to care for roses.
Growing miniature roses inside is not impossible with the right preparations. An area that is large enough for your roses to sit and get direct sunlight is required, as well as regular watering every three days. Potted roses require more feeding and water than those planted in the ground, so you will need fertilizer that is made specifically for roses. Growing miniature roses will need to be fed biweekly in times they are not in season, and once a week when in blooming season.
Growing miniature roses will require the sunniest area of your house. If the stems of your roses tend to leave gaps between leaves or seem to stretch out, your rose needs more light. Your growing miniature roses will also require watering in the form of a shower weekly. Spraying the roses will reduce spider mite possibilities while indoors. Misting at the top and underside of leaves will accomplish this, as well as removing dust. Using the right sized pot for your growing miniature roses is essential. If the pot is too big, your growing miniature roses will not grow as quickly. But if the pot is too small, the roses will be cramped and can become root bound.
When planted outside, growing miniature roses bloom starting in the spring and ends during the winter. Covering your plant with mulch will help the plant to survive outdoors during frost and cold weather. To keep your roses alive in the ground outside, dig a hole about 13 inches deep and wide. Remove the rose from its pot and place your roots down into the hole. Use loosened soil to refill the hole with your roses in place level. Water the plant well and press down on the soil to get rid of air pockets.
Never allow the soil to get completely dry. The first month after transplanting a rose is the most important time for health. Water the growing miniature roses daily for this time frame. After this time, go down to simply keeping the soil moist, which should require watering about every 3 days. Check the soil regularly and if it appears dried out, simply give the plant some water.
