Q&A: Is it a good time to start planting sod in San Antonio Texas.?

September 10, 2010

Question by lulu: Is it a good time to start planting sod in San Antonio Texas.?
The temp has been averaging around 70′s in the highs and around 40 in the lows. Sometimes it will get around 32 but it will only last a few hours. I think the freezing season is over.

I want to make sure the grass has enough time to root and not burn with the hot summer.

I plan to plant a creeper grass. What kind idk.

The weather has been so good here that yes you can start planting sod. Just be sure to keep it watered since we haven’t been getting any rain. Also try to stay away from St. Augustine grass. It requires too much water and it’s getting too hot in the summers here for it. I would go with bermuda or zoysia.

Awareness Number Four [Reasons Why Not To Mow The Yard]

Awareness Number Four [Reasons Why Not To Mow The Yard]

1. Mowing grass causes air-born toxic emissions. Anytime a plant is eaten or cut down, it goes into a self-preservation mode.

a. The damaged plant sends electrical impulses to it’s root system telling it to produce a toxic enzyme for the purpose of warding off further destruction.

b. The damaged plant also sends a genesis signal to the roots that will cause the growth of the plant to switch into high gear. The plant then grows at an abnormal speed in a state of toxicity until it’s threat of extinction is no longer. This promotes a local air atmosphere of toxicity that lingers in hopes of warding off further destruction from air-breathing creatures. Some of the side effects for humans may include; hay fever, labored breathing, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, acute asthma, and nausea.

2 .Mowing increases the pesky bug population.

a.The miraculous eco-system that you have just cut down, has driven away an arsenal of would-be predators of gnats, flies, and mosquitoes. The pesky bugs can now fly around with less fear of being consumed. They are also filled with the toxins from the air-born aftermath, thus, birds and other would-be flying predators will stay away from them until the conditions return to normal.

3. Labor and equipment cost.

a. First you have the initial cost of the lawnmower,

b. Second you have the perpetual cost of fuel and oil.

c. Third you have the cost of maintaining and fixing your lawnmower [unless you are one of those people who are fortunate enough to have a mechanic in the family, but even then, you must rely upon their charity every time you have a mechanical need.]

d. Fourth, your time is money if not for the fact that you could be spending more time on better endeavors that may be important to you.

4. Noise Pollution

a. For a considerable portion of your day, the lawn mower engine noise will strip the peace and solitude as well as drown out and drive away many beautiful song birds [that also eat pesky bugs I might add.] that were also once thriving around your yard space.

So why don’t we save ourself a lot of time and money, sprinkle some wildflower seeds around and maybe cut just enough for a little winding walkway, and enjoy our yard’s little eco-system?We will all breathe alot easier especially when we realize all the time, energy, and money that we are saving!

It\\’s not about me.

What is Cholesterol, Home Remedies for Cholesterol?

What is Cholesterol, Home Remedies for Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body’s cells. It’s normal to have cholesterol. Cholesterol is an important part of a healthy body because it’s used for producing cell membranes and some hormones, and serves other needed bodily functions. But too much cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease (which leads to heart attack) and for stroke. Hypercholesterolemia is the medical term for high levels of blood cholesterol.

Home Remedies for Cholesterol

Our bodies need cholesterol to:

•    Maintain healthy cell walls
•    Make hormones  (the body’s chemical messengers)
•    Make vitamin D
•    Make bile acids, which aid in fat digestion

Home remedies for cholesterol #1: Mix 1 tsp. of roasted chicory root.

1 tsp. of lime flowers.
½ tsp. of fenugreek seeds.
½ tsp. of ginger rhizome.
1 quart of water.
Boil all ingredients, let it cool, strain. Drink 2 cups a day.

Another useful remedy for cholesterol is sunflower seed. It contains useful chemicals like linoleic acid. This acid helps in decreasing the level of cholesterol around the blood capillaries and helps in normal blood circulation in the body. People are still using saturated fats, butter, etc., for cooking food. These unhealthy oils should strictly be replaced from sunflower oil.

Boil water in a small pan, add 8-12 medium cinnamon sticks, some honey and mix. Cook on low heat for 10 minutes, take of the heat and let it cool. Drink a few times a day to help with the cholesterol levels.

Coriander seeds are considered valuable in lowering blood cholesterol. They also aid in stimulating the kidneys. In 1 glass of water, add 2 tbsps of coriander seeds and bring to a boil. Let the decoction cool for some time and then strain. Drink this mixture two times in a day.

Garlic (Allium cepa) Garlic is very beneficial to people with cholesterol problems that affect the heart. Eating two to three cloves of garlic a day helps to reduce or even completely eliminate the harmful cholesterol in the blood. Garlic can disintegrate the blood cholesterol and hence free up the arteries.

You should drink 2 cups of ingredients in a day. Mix all ingredients and then boil. Ingredients such as include 1 tsp. of roasted chicory root, 1 tsp. of lime flowers, ½ tsp. of fenugreek seeds, ½ tsp. of ginger rhizome and 1 quart of water.

Grind equal amounts of watermelon seeds and khas khas and keep together. Take one teaspoonful with an empty stomach and one in the evening with water for lowering blood pressure. This can be taken 3-4 weeks according to the requirement.

Mix a teaspoon of powdered fenugreek seeds in a glass of water and take in the morning on an empty stomach for a month. This is an effective and useful Home Remedy for Cholesterol
