You need to prep the area that it will be lying (loosen the dirt up so the sod has something to grab). then roll out the sod, and water it lots with a hose by hand. Do not use a sprinkler, they don’t hit the entire thing. Give it a few weeks of this. It’s ready for mowing when you can grab a handful of the grass and pull it up and the ground doesn’t move with it, but only use a push mower on it for a few weeks.

Ok, I want to plant grass and I was wondering if I can plant a Kentucky Bluegrass/ Tall Fescue mix with bermuda grass. I live in South Carolina and I was going to buy mostly the mix and then some bermuda grass and mix the seeds together in the seed scatterer. Would that work?

No. come look at my lawn. The bermudagrass is in the sun, the KBG/TF is in the shade. The KBG/TF is still green, but the bermudagrass turned winter brown in early October and won’t green up again until April or May. So my lawn is a quilt of brown and green for more months than it’s totally green. And their growth patterns are different……bermuda low and KGB/TF upright. Nothing uniform or even pretty.

Stick with one or the other, warm season bermuda or cool season KGB. The exception would be overseeding for winter display. Done in warmer parts of the country where the bermuda fades in winter but people want bright green. Best managed by someone who understands the pros and cons of the job.

Generally there is 500sqft in a pallet of sod sometimes there may be little more or little less but the sod cutters shoot for 500 square. Hope this helps!
